Music Medics Sending Virtual Videos to Children’s Hospitals - Draws National Attention

Singers from the Nashville Music Medics (Wayne Jackson, Sam English and Chuck Hamilton), along with Child Life Specialist    Kelsey Bryant, from The Children’s Hospital at TriStar Centennial in Nashville, were interviewed on September 8, 2021 by Forrest Sanders, a Nashville photojournalist for Scripps Broadcasting, to talk about the music the Medics bring to the patients and their families at the hospital. Scripps’ Local Media Operations represent a portfolio of 61 television stations in 41 markets. Forrest’s project was introduced September 16, 2021 to the Scripps’ family.

The Music Medics, formed in 2019 to sing at the local children’s hospital, have been regularly singing at Tri-Star Centennial Womens and Childrens Hospital, until COVID-19 and its DELTA variant required the hospital to suspend their visits, not once, but twice. This was a real blow to the children, their families, the Centennial Children’s Staff, as well as the Medics themselves who loved singing to everyone.

During the first lockdown, as soon as the Medics learned the hospital had their own YouTube channel that broadcast to all the children’s rooms, they quickly adapted their approach and created virtual videos for the children. Even though the Music Medics couldn’t be there  in person, everyone believes the videos are the next best thing until the Music Medics can return in person to bring their own special brand of joy through music to the families

The BHS Music Medics and Nashville Music Medics combined recently garnered local attention on Nashville's Scripps Broadcasting Channel 5 when this production by videographer Forrest Sanders was broadcast on December 23rd in the primetime 6:00 pm Central Time.  Will it be picked up by Scripps and go National?  Standby.  It is, indeed, Great to be a Music Medic!
